The Rupture of Desire: An Interview with China Miéville

My masters thesis at Princeton Seminary was a constructive project that brought together a very heterodox Marxism with the niche tradition of apophatic thought and theology. Halfway through writing my thesis, I stumbled upon China Miéville’s brilliant essay in Salvage, “Silence in Debris.” China’s essay did much of what I was trying to do in my thesis; he also happened to do as much while writing in a manner that only he could achieve.

After completing my thesis and graduating, I talked with some good folk over at the journal Political Theology and we decided to publish an interview with China. The interview is incredibly redacted, as China and I talked for nearly six hours. Nevertheless, here is the abridged version of the interview and here is the extended, albeit paywall restricted, version of the interview.
